Leeds United have set their sights on signing Bournemouth attacking starlet Ajani Burchall, Football Insider has learned.
The youngster, 16, has attracted interest from the Premier League elite after rejecting a scholarship deal with the Championship promotion hopefuls.
That has opened the door to a summer move and a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leeds have registered their interest in signing Burchall.
There is plenty of top-level competition for the youngster’s services.
This site revealed last week that West Ham had joined Arsenal in the summer race for Bermudan winger.
He is likely to leave Bournemouth when his current agreement expires at the end of the season.
The teenager, who is still at school, became the Cherries’ third-youngest-ever player when making his debut as a substitute in December’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield.
He is yet to add to that single appearance although he has also been on the bench against Luton Town.
Leeds have invested heavily in top young talent since Andrea Radrizzani took over the club in 2017.
That went to a new level last summer when the club clinched the seven-figure captures of Joe Gelhardt from Wigan Athletic and Sam Greenwood from Arsenal, while Cody Drameh also joined from Fulham for around £400,000.
It demonstrated Leeds’ commitment to the future under Marcelo Bielsa, who has provided a pathway from the academy to the first team during his reign.
United regularly fill their bench for Premier League matches with four or five Under-23s and youth teamers.
