Tottenham have decided to sack Nuno Espirito Santo after senior stars told the board he’s not up to the job, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the death knell has sounded for Nuno after a number of players were approached by senior officials for their opinion on the manager.

It is believed that the underwhelming response from the dressing room has convinced the board to act.

Chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Fabio Paratici are now undertaking their second managerial search in just months.

It is believed Ryan Mason, 30, could be placed in interim charge for the second time this year before a permanent appointment is made.

Mason acted as caretaker when Jose Mourinho left the club in April just days before the Carabao Cup final.

It took Spurs 10 weeks to appoint Nuno as his successor after interviewing a number of candidates.

They spoke to the likes of Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, Gennaro Gattuso and former manager Mauricio Pochettino before appointing Nuno.

The 47-year-old was not initially considered after he left Wolves at the end of last season.

After a record-breaking start to the Premier League season with three successive 1-0 wins, results have turned in recent weeks.

Saturday's 3-0 home loss to Man United is set to be his final game in charge.

The crowd booed and sang "you don't know what you're doing" to their manager during the game.
