Liverpool have set their sights on Villarreal's forward sensation Arnaut Danjuma, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Merseysiders were interested in the 24-year-old during the summer and are continuing to track him.

A recruitment source has told Football insider that Liverpool sent scouts to watch Danjuma in action for Villarreal against Man United in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

United won the match 2-1 after a Cristiano Ronaldo goal five minutes into added time but it was Danjuma who collected the man-of-the-match award.

He ran the home side ragged at Old Trafford with an electrifying performance that included an assist for Paco Alcacer's goal after 53 minutes when he pulled back a cross from the byline.

Liverpool are compiling a dossier on the attacker with a view to a potential transfer.

Danjuma has made a big impact at Villarreal since joining from Bournemouth in the summer for a fee of around £21million.

He has scored three goals from seven La Liga and Champions League matches as well as that assist against United.

Operating mainly from the left flank - which was the position he was used by Villarreal against United on Wednesday night - the two-times Holland international is in such excellent form he could be recalled to the national team.

Danjuma joined Bournemouth from Club Brugge in the summer of 2019 for £14m.

He made 52 appearances for the Cherries across two seasons, scoring 17 goals and supplying eight assists in all competitions.
