Rangers are confident Connor Goldson will agree a new contract before the transfer window shuts, Football Insider has learned.

The 28-year-old has held talks over a new deal with the club as they look to tie him down beyond his current agreement's expiration in May 2022.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that a new and improved three-year agreement was close in April before negotiations stalled but there is still an expectation a deal will be finalised.

Goldson has attracted enquiries from clubs south of the border, including West Ham, after playing the best football of his career under Steven Gerrard.

He was one of four Gers players nominated for last season’s SFWA player of the year award after his integral role in the club’s unbeaten title-winning campaign.

The centre-half was ever-present for Steven Gerrard's side in the 2020-21 campaign and amassed a staggering 56 appearances across all competitions.

In those games, he contributed eight goals and three assists, including a brace against Celtic in the first Old Firm of the season last October.

Football Insider revealed on 23rd February that West Ham were keeping tabs on Goldson in light of his outstanding form.

David Moyes' side are in the market for defensive reinforcements in the summer window after the club confirmed Fabian Balbuena would be released today.

Goldson has made 162 appearances for the Light Blues since arriving in a £3million deal from Brighton in July 2018.
