Man United and Tottenham are not now expected to Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this January, sources have told Football Insider.

However, the deal now looks "impossible", one well-placed source said, and the England international is now expected remain in south London for the remainder of the season.

Crystal Palace

The Eagles value Guehi at £60million after he emerged as one of the Premier League's top young defenders since his £20million switch from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.

Man United were willing to pay up to £45million for Guehi, whose Palace contract expires in the summer of 2026.

Their centre-back options are limited following the long-term injury to Lisandro Martinez, who has not featured for the Red Devils since September.

Jonny Evans also suffered an injury last month with the club confirming he will be sidelined for several weeks.

Tottenham meanwhile have relied on full-backs to cover the centre of their defence following the devastating injury of Micky van de Ven and the suspension of Cristian Romero.

Spurs had an interest in Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, but as Football Insider revealed (8 December), they have pulled the plug on that particular interest and will pursue other targets this winter.

Guehi has broken into Gareth Southgate's England side, making his full senior debut in March 2022 after featuring at every level for the Three Lions since the under-16s.

He has made 98 appearances for Roy Hodgson's side, scoring five goals and notching one assist.

Tottenham are next in action against Newcastle United on Sunday while Man United will face Bournemouth the previous afternoon.
