Sources: Major update on Man United potentially sacking Solskjaer as board's plan revealed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be sacked by Man United if he does not oversee a revival in the matches immediately after the international break, Football Insider has learned.

The Norwegian boss is under huge pressure at Old Trafford following limp displays in high-profile recent defeats to Man City and Liverpool.

A United source has told Football Insider that Solskjaer is safe for now and will take charge of the team’s next match against Watford on 20 November.

But reports that he will remain the club’s manager until at least next summer, or while the club remain in contention to qualify for next season’s Champions League, are believed to be wide of the mark.

There is a growing appetite among the decision-makers at Old Trafford for change due to misgivings over Solskjaer and his coaching team.

Chief among those is over the tactics and the set-up of the team.

There is believed to have been bemusement among the United hierarchy that Solskjaer fielded a three-man defence in the first half of the defeat to City even though Pep Guardiola’s side did not use an orthodox number nine.

The United source explained that the board are trying to give Solskjaer the opportunity to oversee a significant improvements in the team’s performances and results.

But they will not allow the team, who went into the international break fifth in the Premier League table but nine points behind leaders Chelsea, to continue to decline without taking action.
