Antonio Conte has made up his mind for Tottenham to sell Tanguy Ndombele this summer regardless of how he finishes the season at Lyon, Football Insider understands.

The club-record signing re-joined his old side in January on a loan-to-buy deal that has an option to become permanent in the summer.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that there is no future for Ndombele, 25, at the club even if, as expected, Lyon do not trigger the £50million-plus option in his deal.

“There’s no way back” for Ndombele, the source explained, as Conte does not regard him as capable of slotting into his team.

It means Spurs will listen to offers for the midfielder again this summer.

Their preference is to agree a permanent transfer.

The midfielder has notched a goal and two assists since returning to Lyon on loan in January.

Conte's decision to part with the Frenchman may have been made easier by the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur.

Signed for a reported potential fee of £21.5million, the 49-time Uruguay international has earned rave reviews since arriving in north London.

Prior to completing a loan exit, Ndombele had played just 886 minutes of football for Tottenham during this campaign.

He managed just one Premier League start under Conte.

The France international asked to leave the club last summer (2021) after being frozen out by former boss Nuno Espirito Santo during pre-season.

All told, Ndombele has netted 10 goals and provided nine assists across 91 Tottenham appearances.
