Man United are confident of securing right-back Diogo Dalot to a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources with knowledge of the 23-year-old's situation have revealed that contract talks are progressing well and a breakthrough is close.

This news comes amid reports from Spanish media - which suggest Real Madrid are plotting a move for the Portugal international as they eye a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.

Man United activated the one-year extension clause in Dalot's contract late last year in order to safeguard his transfer value.

However, Los Blancos remain interested in the former Porto ace - who will have 12 months left to run on his deal at the end of the season.

Dalot reportedly earns a weekly wage of £25,000 at Old Trafford following his arrival from Portugal in 2018.

The right-back has been a key figure for Erik ten Hag's side this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions - all but one of which has come as a starter.

He has recovered from a shaky start to his start to life at Old Trafford - which saw him shipped out on loan to AC Milan for the 2020-21 season after a lack of game time in Manchester.

Dalot managed to displace Bayern Munich loanee Joao Cancelo in the Portugal side at the World Cup last year - and has made 10 appearances in total for his country.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in a similar position to his fellow right-back, with the former England Under-21 international also out of contract in 2024.

Ten Hag's side are next in action against Barcelona in the Europa League playoff round following a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last week (16 February).
