Sources: Man United new owners plan sensational Kylian Mbappe signing to win over fans

The new owners of Man United could launch a sensational swoop for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe to kick-start their Old Trafford reign, sources have told Football Insider.

Erik ten Hag’s side are in desperate need of a prolific striker despite the recent goalscoring form of Marcus Rashford – who has notched 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League outings.

Mbappe has made publicly and privately clear his disgruntlement behind the scenes at Parc des Princes, despite only signing a new three-year deal last summer (2022).

Reports emerged last year (as per Fabrizio Romano, 11 October) suggesting the World Cup winner wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain “as soon as possible”.

It is believed that Man United would be interested in swooping for Mbappe should a mega-money takeover materialise.

The club’s recruitment chiefs are already laying the groundwork for their summer business as the battle to become the new owners of the Red Devils heats up.

Two parties have confirmed mega-money bids for the Old Trafford club, with UK-based billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani lodging their official interest before the 10pm ‘soft deadline” on Friday (17 February).

Other interested parties can still choose to make bids as the process to transfer ownership gets underway.

A marquee signing will be top of the shopping list for the new owners – whoever they are – and the capture of Mbappe would go a long way to winning over supporters.

Despite his reported unhappiness at PSG, Mbappe is still the top scorer in Ligue 1 – with 15 strikes in 20 appearances at a rate of 104 minutes per goal.

The French superstar also shone at a second consecutive World Cup finals – netting eight goals as Les Bleus were beaten on penalties in the final against Argentina.

Man United released global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo just before the Qatar showpiece got underway following an incredible rant against the club.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag’s side look set to secure Champions League qualification this term – and are still fighting on four fronts with three months of this season still to play.
