Sources: Man United in transfer mission tomorrow as deal lined up for Pogba replacement

Man United are stepping up their interest in Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as they line up a transfer mission tomorrow, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

United scouts watched Tchouameni in action two weeks ago for the French club against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that talent spotters from the Premier League giants are set to cast an eye over him tomorrow night in the return game in France.

United are ready to line up a deal for the dazzling youngster if they get the thumbs-up from scouts.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the best talents in Europe after impressing for club and country in the last 18 months.

Tchouameni has broken into the France team and helped them win the Nations League finals earlier this month.

United are in the market for midfield reinforcements going into the January window.

They want a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, who is out of contract next summer and has failed to agree a new deal, as well as an upgrade on the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay.

Tchouameni has been identified by the United recruitment team as capable of slotting into and improving their midfield.

The problems in that area have been continually highlighted this season, not least in Tuesday night’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Atalanta.

Pogba and McTominay started in central midfield in a 3-4-2-1 formation, but neither completed the match.

The Frenchman was hauled off after 69 minutes and replaced by Nemanja Matic in yet another indication of his place in the pecking order.

Tchouameni has five France caps and is a key man at Monaco, where he is contracted until the summer of 2024.
