Sources: Man United plot raid to sign 'freak' Evan Ferguson

Man United are in the hunt to sign Brighton sensation Evan Ferguson this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

United have sent scouts to watch Ferguson as they prepare to try and lure him away from the AMEX at the end of the season.

The Seagulls are preparing for major interest in the 18-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

Ferguson signed his first professional contract with Roberto de Zerbi’s side on his 18th birthday in October and put pen to paper on a four- year contract.

Speaking on the striker’s contract (19 October), De Zerbi said he was “very happy” to see the teenager commit his future to the club and has been impressed by his potential.

He became the club’s youngest ever player when he made his debut against Burnley last year.

Ferguson has made ten Premier League appearances for Brighton so far this season and has scored three goals and provided two assists in those outings.

He also netted twice in the FA Cup last Sunday and was hailed afterwards as a “superstar” and “phenomenal” by Danny Murphy, while youthful teammate Andrew Moran has called him a “freak”.

The Republic of Ireland international made his first senior start for his country on Wednesday (22 March) and scored his first goal in their 3-2 win over Latvia.

Man United are desperate to add reinforcements up front this summer and are going to go “all out” to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham at the end of the season.

The Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst from Burnely on loan in January but are unlikely to make that deal permanent come the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag also has Anthony Martial to call upon up front, but he has struggled with injury and the manager has previously admitted that he is not up to the task of number one striker.
