Brighton have agreed a club-record £22million fee with Bristol City for centre-back Adam Webster, Football Insider understands.
A Brighton source has told Football Insider that Webster has now been given permission to hold talks and undergo a medical on the South Coast today as they look to tie up his signature.
Bristol City were reluctant to lose Webster, but accepted Brighton’s record offer late on Thursday night.
Webster has established himself as one of the best young defenders outside the Premier League after impressing at Bristol City.
The 24-year-old, who joined Bristol City from Ipswich in the summer of 2018, made 43 starts for Bristol City in the Championship last season as the Robins finished just outside the play-off spots.
Webster’s imminent arrival at Brighton is sure to fuel speculation over Lewis Dunk’s future at the Amex Stadium with the Brighton captain linked with a potential move to Leicester City.
Dunk is earmarked as a straight replacement for Manchester United target Harry Maguire.
In other Brighton news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made an approach to sign an Aston Villa-wanted star.
