Sources: Middlesbrough in advanced talks to sign Van Bergen after second bid tabled
Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign Heerenveen winger Mitchell Van Bergen, Football Insider can reveal.
The 21-year-old has been targeted by the Championship side as they continue their late-window transfer spree.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro have submitted a second bid for Van Bergen after their opening offer was rejected.
The two clubs are now close to agreeing a fee.
The ex-Vitesse man primarily plays on the right side, where Boro have lost Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, but can also operate on the left.
Van Bergen is out of contract with Eredivisie side Heerenveen at the end of this season, having joined in 2018.

Reports in his home country claim that the wide man has rejected an offer of a new contract with his parent club.
The Netherlands U21 international has scored 17 goals and 10 assists in 99 appearances with Heerenveen.
Of those appearances, 32 came in 2020-21 as Heerenveen finished 12th in the Eredivisie.
He started on the right wing as his side began their 2021-22 campaign with a 1-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles last Friday.
Neil Warnock’s Boro meanwhile have had a frenzied transfer window so far, signing no fewer than eight players.
The headline arrival has been Argentine midfielder Martin Payero who joined from Banfield in a reported £6million deal.
Football Insider also revealed yesterday (17 August) that Boro are in advance talks to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Andraz Sporar.
Warnock will hope his new recruits can help Middlesbrough better their 10th-place finish last term.
