Sources: Swansea City in race with West Brom to sign Gray

Swansea City are racing West Brom to sign Watford striker Andre Gray, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site revealed earlier this month (10 August) that the Baggies are chasing the 30-year-old front man.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Swansea have now registered their interest in a potential Gray deal.

Russell Martin’s side are weighing up a loan move for the prolific Championship scorer.

Gray has just 12 months left to run on his Watford contract and the club are keen to offload him this summer.

He was not included in the matchday squad for their 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Xisco instead opted to include summer signing Ashley Fletcher on the bench.

Gray has not had the desired impact at Vicarage Road after moving for a then club-record £18million fee from Burnley in 2017.

The Jamaica international has scored 21 times in 125 games across all competitions for the Hornets.

Swansea have already bolstered their forward ranks with the signings of Kyle Joseph and Joël Piroe this summer.

However, Gray would represent a ready-made option for Martin.

He has scored 46 times and provided 19 assists in 118 Championship games across his time with Watford, Burnley and Brentford.

Meanwhile, West Brom currently have Karlan Grant, Callum Robinson and Kenneth Zohore as their centre-forward options.

Grant and Robinson have both found the net already this season as Albion remain unbeaten in the Championship.

In other news, there has been a huge update on Sam Johnstone’s future at West Brom after West Ham bid.
