Millwall have had a £1.5million bid for striker Pape Habib Gueye rejected by KV Kortrijk, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 22-year-old has caught the eye of English clubs after scoring six goals in 18 matches for the Belgian top-tier club this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Millwall’s offer for Gueye has been turned down and there is also interest from Watford.

The Hornets are monitoring him as a possible addition to their attack in case they lose Emmanuel Dennis to the African Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria international has been excused from international duty after Watford were accused by the Nigerian FA of "baring fangs" over his involvement.

Meanwhile, fellow forward Ismaila Sarr is caught in a tug of war between club and country.

Claudio Ranieri's side claim Sarr is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury.

Senegal have accused the Hornets of refusing to release him to play.

The uncertain situation has led to Watford considering a move for Gueye before the end of the month.

However, Millwall have made the first move, with their opening bid rejected by Kortrijk.

The Lions are in the market for a new striker this month.

They view Gueye as an affordable option who can cut it in the Championship.

The centre-forward has scored 13 times in 55 appearances for Kortrijk after joining in January 2020.

However, he is currently out of action after suffering a meniscus injury against Cercle Brugge in early December.

As confirmed by the club on 8 December, he underwent surgery and is currently recovering from the operation.

Tom Bradshaw is Millwall's top scorer this season with seven goals.

Meanwhile, Dennis leads Watford's goalscoring charts with eight.
