Farhad Moshiri is unconvinced by boardroom allies pushing for David Moyes to be appointed the new Everton manager, Football Insider has learned.

The Premier League club have held preliminary talks with the Scot about returning to Goodison Park for a second spell and he is keen to do so.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that Moyes' return is being championed by longstanding chairman Bill Kenwright but majority owner Moshiri is not so keen.

The Iranian billionaire is keen to appoint someone who will excite supporters and can reignite the imaginations of supporters.

Moshiri regards Moyes as a safe pair of hands, but is aware that a significant section of fans are not thrilled by the prospect of him heading back to Everton six years after he quit.

The man who spent 11 years at Goodison is also wanted by West Ham and could have a big decision to make in the coming days.

Marco Silva will stay in charge for Saturday's clash against Leicester City but, barring an unexpected turnaround in fortunes, he is walking on thin ice as manager.

Last weekend's home defeat to Norwich City left them 16th in the table despite vast investment on the playing squad again over the summer.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, Kenwright has championed Moyes to take over for a second spell, while the former manager also has the support of CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale.

Other contenders include Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, Manchester City number two Mikel Arteta and Mark Hughes.
