Sources: Norwich City and Watford set sights on Haikin

Watford and Norwich City are keeping close tabs on Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 26-year-old has been earning rave reviews in Norway and during Bodo/Glimt’s run in Europe.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Watford, Norwich and multiple Championship clubs are set to watch Haikin in action against Roma in the Europa Conference tonight.

The shot-stopper recently won his first call-up to the Russia national team.

He holds an English passport having started at Chelsea so could easily move to the UK in January.

Haikin spent time with Chelsea, Portsmouth and Reading during his youth career but failed to make a senior appearance for any of those sides.

He signed for Bodo/Glimt’ in March 2019 and helped his side win the Norwegian first division during his second season.

The stopper has established himself as a permanent fixture and played every minute of his side’s season so far this campaign.

This includes a famous 6-1 victory over Jose Mourinho’s Roma two weeks ago, a result his side will look to replicate tonight.

Norwich’s first-choice keeper is still Tim Krul, 33 while Ben Foster, 38, has made six appearances for the Hornets this season.

The Canaries are rock bottom of the Premier League while Watford sit just three points outside the relegation zone.

Krul has conceded more goals than any other Premier League keeper this season, failing to prevent a goal 25 times in just 10 games.

Watford face Arsenal this weekend while Norwich travel to Brentford.
