Norwich City have opened talks to sign Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Premier League new boys are in the market for a central midfielder proven in the top flight.

A Norwich source has told Football Insider that discussions have begun over a deal that would bring Billing to the club permanently.

Billing has played 77 times in the Premier League for the Cherries and Huddersfield Town.

The 25-year-old has three years left to run on his Bournemouth contract.

Norwich have already bolstered their midfield ranks with the loan signing of Billy Gilmour.

The Chelsea ace starred for Scotland at the European Championship but has just five Premier League starts to his name.

While Gilmour can control the game from midfield Billing would offer more of an attacking threat.

The one-time Denmark international scored eight times and provided four assists in the Championship last term.

The Canaries will need to find more creativity after losing Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa for an initial £33million fee this summer.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 21 July Villa are also in advanced negotiations to sign Todd Cantwell.

Cantwell and Buendia scored 21 times and provided 24 assists between them as Norwich clinched the Championship title last term.

As well as Gilmour, Daniel Farke has added five other senior players as Norwich prepare for life back in the Premier League.

That includes Milot Rashica who scored three times and provided five assists in 24 Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen last season.
