Sources: Nottingham Forest in pole position to sign Colchester star Wiredu
Nottingham Forest are in pole position to sign Colchester United midfielder Brendan Wiredu in January, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 22-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in League Two this season.
A Forest source has told Football Insider that Steve Cooper’s side lead the race for Wiredu going into the January window.
But they face competition for his services from multiple other EFL clubs.
Wiredu is a 6ft 3in midfielder of joint English and Ghanaian citizenship who is contracted to Colchester until the summer of 2023.
He extended his current deal in the summer after joining on deadline day last January.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and enjoyed spells at Bromley and Colchester before making his move to the U’s permanent earlier this year.
Wiredu made 20 appearances in the second half of last season as the Essex club narrowly avoided relegation from the fourth tier.
This term, the London-born ace has contributed one goal and four assists in 21 appearances.
Wiredu has forged a partnership with former Ipswich and Bristol City star Cole Skuse as Colchester once again flirt with the drop.
Nottingham Forest want to bolster their midfield options as Steve Cooper’s side bid to secure promotion in the second half of this campaign.
The Reds sit ninth in the Championship after 24 games – just two points off sixth.
Man United loanee James Garner and former Sunderland ace Jack Colback are among Cooper’s options in the heart of midfield.
The winter transfer window opens for business on Saturday (1 January).
In other news, Nottingham Forest and West Brom are among six clubs racing to sign Premier League star.
