Sources: Nottingham Forest submit multi-million Laurent bid

Nottingham Forest have submitted a bid for Reading midfielder Josh Laurent, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Championship and they can’t afford to give him a new deal.

A Forest source has told Football Insider that the Laurent offer is between £2-3million.

Laurent moved to Reading from Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer last summer but only signed a two-year deal.

Forest will be hoping to exploit his contract situation to complete a deal.

Reading have already sold Michael Olise to Crystal Palace for an £8million fee this summer.

Laurent featured in all but three of Reading’s Championship games last season and won the club’s player of the season award.

The Englishman is a graduate of Queens Park Rangers’ academy but has had spells at Braintree, Brentford, Newport County, Hartlepool United, Wigan Athletic and Bury.

Forest are in the market for midfield reinforcements after James Garner returned to Manchester United at the end of last season.

The 20-year-old scored four times in 20 games for the Midlands club after moving on loan in January.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week (2 August) United are set to offer him a new contract and then loan him out again.

His current contract has just 12 months left to run and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the City Ground.

In other news, Nottingham Forest and West Brom are racing to sign a Belgium-based star on a free transfer.
