Sources: Oldham Athletic agree to sign Tottenham starlet Bowden

Oldham Athletic have agreed to sign Tottenham midfielder Jamie Bowden, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The north-west club have clinched a deal for the 20-year-old as they look to strengthen in central midfield.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Bowden is heading to League Two outfit Oldham on a season-long loan.

Bowden is yet to make his senior debut but for Spurs but did make the matchday squad for their Europa League tie against Wolfsberger AC last season.

He has also featured in pre-season friendlies under Nuno Espirito Santo this summer.

The deep-lying midfield has racked up 37 appearances for the club’s Under-23s side which have yielded five goals and four assists.

However, the Ireland Under-19 international will now continue his development with Oldham in League Two.

The Latics finished 18th last season, nine points above the relegation zone.

Keith Curle took over as manager in March and has signed six players already this summer.

However, he has not signed any midfielders and has instead focused his attention on his side’s defence.

Oldham have also added Hallam Hope who they will hope will bring some much-needed firepower.

Curle may see Bowden as a direct replacement for Leeds United star Alfie McCalmont who spent last season on loan at Boundary Park.

The 21-year-old scored eight times and provided five assists in 35 League Two games.

He has now joined League One new boys Morecambe on a season-long loan deal.

In other news, Tottenham have opened preliminary talks to sign an England star.
