Sources: Tottenham open preliminary talks to sign Coady from Wolves
Tottenham have opened preliminary talks over signing Conor Coady from Wolves, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Londoners have set their sights on the England international, 28, as they look to recruit at least two senior central defenders before the window cut-off next month.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that manager Nuno Espirito Santo is pushing hard for the club to land Coady.
The centre-back was discussed by the new manager as a target during talks with Spurs before he was appointed last month.
The Portugese, 47, regarded the Liverpool academy product as his “lieutenant” at Wolves and wants him for a similar leadership role at Tottenham.
Coady also offers proven Premier League calibre, something Fabio Paratici’s top centre-back targets do not have.

Tottenham have also held extensive negotiations over the signing of Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu but that deal is on hold while he plays for Japan at the Olympics.
The Londoners are prioritising the capture of a centre-back after selling Toby Alderweireld last week.
They are also listening to offers for Davinson Sanchez and could also even offload Eric Dier, their third senior centre-back of last season.
Coady missed just one Premier League game in three seasons under Nuno at Wolves.
He spent the earlier part of the summer with England at the Euros but did not play as he was behind Harry Maguire, John Stones, Tyrone Mings and Kyle Walker in the pecking order.
