Sources: Porto make move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Man United after Erik ten Hag decision

Porto have registered their interest in signing Man United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Football Insider understands.

The 37-year-old wants to quit Old Trafford this summer for a Champions League club.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Porto have enquired about Ronaldo’s situation as they look to lure him back to his homeland.

Erik ten Hag is willing to let Ronaldo go as long as he can bring in a forward replacement.

Football Insider first revealed Porto’s interest in Ronaldo on 23 March amid signs he could be heading out of United.

The all-time great has just one year remaining on on his contract at Old Trafford after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal upon his arrival from Juventus in 2021.

There is the option of a further year.

Porto will compete in next season’s Champions League after winning the 2021-22 domestic title in Portugal.

Ronaldo has competed in the Champions League for 19 straight seasons.

He is the competition’s top scorer and United’s failure to secure Champions League football next season is one of the main reasons behind his desire to leave.

The Portugal international scored 24 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for United last season.

Six of those goals came in just seven Champions League appearances.

Ronaldo has scored a staggering 117 goals in 189 appearances for Portugal.

FC Porto want to bring the striker back to his home country in what would be a statement signing.

In other news, Man United have been tipped to sign a holding midfielder after an update on Frenkie de Jong talks.
