Sources: Portsmouth and MK Dons in race to sign Accrington star Colby Bishop

Portsmouth and MK Dons are battling it out to sign Accrington Stanley striker Colby Bishop, Football Insider understands.

The 25-year-old has been the target for a number of EFL clubs after catching the eye at Accrington over the last couple of seasons.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Portsmouth and MK Dons are in the market for attacking additions before the close of the transfer window and they are big admirers of Bishop.

He is in the final year of his contract at Accrington, although there is an optional 12-month extension clause.

A recruitment source told Football Insider last summer (28 August 2021) that Bishop was on the radar of Championship trio Preston North End, Huddersfield Town and Peterborough United.

Since then, he scored 14 goals and provided four assists in 47 games across all competitions in 2021-22 for Accrington.

Portsmouth are in the market for a new striker with George Hirst returning to Leicester City after his loan spell at Fratton Park in 2021-22.

Football Insider reported earlier this week (5 July) that they were chasing Cardiff City striker James Collins.

Bishop has been more prolific than Collins over recent seasons.

Since his move to Accrington from non-league side Leamington in the summer of 2019, he has found the net on 38 occasions in 123 appearances across all competitions.

Pompey finished 10th in League One in 2021-22 while MK Dons finished third before losing to Wycombe in the play-off semi-finals.

Accrington Stanley were down in 12th, 21 points above the relegation zone and 22 points below the top-six.

In other news, Portsmouth have agreed a new deal with a 24-year-old.
