Sources: Preston North End, Huddersfield Town and Sunderland in race to sign Ravel Morrison
Preston North End, Huddersfield Town and Sunderland have set their sights on signing Ravel Morrison this summer, Football Insider understands.
The 29-year-old will be available on a free transfer once his contract at Derby County expires next week.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a number of Championship clubs are interested in signing Morrison on a free transfer.
The attacking midfielder was one of Derby’s standout players in the 2021-22 campaign.
He contributed four goals and four assists in 36 Championship appearances as the Rams were relegated.
Speaking on 9 March, as quoted by the Derby Telegraph, Morrison revealed that he “definitely” wanted to sign a new contract and remain at Pride Park.
However, three months and a relegation later the ex-Man United midfielder is set to leave Derby with the club still in administration.
Morrison came through the ranks at Man United and made his debut for the club aged 17 in an EFL Cup win over Wolves in October 2010.
However, the Englishman failed to establish himself in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team.
He joined West Ham permanently in January 2012.
Loan spells at Birmingham City and Cardiff would follow before he was released in 2015.
Morrison has also played for Lazio, Atlas, Ostersund, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and ADO Den Haag before reuniting with Wayne Rooney at Derby.
Preston and Huddersfield are considering a move for the attacking midfielder as they look to build squads capable of gaining promotion next season.
Sunderland manager Alex Neil wants to add more Championship experience to his side following their promotion from League One last month.
In other news, Shrewsbury Town are plotting to sign a Preston North End midfielder.
