Charlie Austin has arrived at West Brom to undergo a medical as he puts the finishing touches to a transfer from Southampton, Football Insider understands.

Slaven Bilic's side are on the verge of signing the prolific striker, 30, ahead of a number of Championship as well as Premier League clubs.

A West Brom source has Football Insider that the club have agreed the terms of a loan deal with the Saints and it is set to be finalised before today's 5pm cut-off.

Austin has headed to the Midlands to put the finishing touches to the transfer after Bilic made it clear he wanted the forward following the sale of Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle's return to Newcastle United.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Saints are willing to offload Austin before the window shuts as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to complete the shake-up his squad with a firesale of senior players.

Bilic is a big admirer of Austin, who has an impressive scoring record in the Premier League, Championship and League One during his career at Southampton Burnley, QPR and Swindon Town.

In the Championship Austin has played 129 matches and scored 66 goals, while in the Premier League he has netted 34 times in 106 appearances.
