Sources: QPR agree to sign Wolves star Sanderson in blow to Championship rivals

QPR have fended off competition from multiple Championship rivals to win the loan race for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed on Tuesday (18 January) that Millwall, Birmingham City, Blackpool and Bristol City were also keen on landing the 22-year-old.

Now a recruitment source has updated to tell Football Insider that QPR have agreed a deal to take Sanderson, 22, on loan for the rest of the season.

He has been granted permission to head to the Londoners and complete the formalities of the move.

Sanderson played 16 times while on loan at Birmingham this season, helping Lee Bowyer’s side to keep seven clean sheets in the process.

However, Bruno Lage wanted him back at Molineux this month as defensive trio Romain Saiss, Willy Boly and Yerson Mosquera were unavailable.

He was named on the bench for Wolves’ last two games, including the 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday (15 January) but did not make it onto the pitch.

Sanderson is highly rated at Wolves and signed a new four-year contract at Molineux over the summer.

To date, he has only made one senior appearance for the club, coming in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa back in 2019.

As well as his spell with Birmingham this season, Sanderson has impressed on loan at Cardiff City and Sunderland in recent seasons.

He has played 26 times at League One level and 25 Championship games but is yet to make his Premier League bow for Wolves.

In other news, Wolves have set their sights on signing a Celtic rising star in a summer deal.
