Sources: RB Salzburg sensation Patson Daka reacts to West Ham swoop

Red Bull Salzburg striker Patson Daka has rejected interest from West Ham as the race to sign him hots up, Football Insider has learned.

The prolific striker has emerged as one of the most in-demand forwards in Europe this summer following his goal-drenched 2020-21 campaign.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that West Ham are among the clubs to register their interest in Daka.

But his camp has let it be known he has his sights set on a move to a higher-level club in the newly-opened window.

Daka has also snubbed the possibility of a transfer to French club Monaco.

That will be a major blow to West Ham, who are in the market for a centre-forward who can provide cover and competition for Michail Antonio this summer.

Manager David Moyes wants a central spearhead who can ruffle up defenders as well as bang in goals consistently.

Daka fits the bill and has been placed on the target list of the Irons and many other Premier League sides.

The Zambia international’s stock is sky-high after he rose through the ranks at Salzburg to succeed Erling Haaland in hugely impressive fashion.

Daka has proved to be every bit as effective in front of goal as the Borussia Dortmund goal machine.

Daka scored 27 league goals from just 21 starts last season, and a remarkable 34 goals as well as 12 assists from 42 matches in all competitions.

In 125 matches for Salzburg, Daka has 68 goals and has also laid on 27 assists.

In other news, a £40m-valued star is “very keen” to join West Ham and his club are in talks to sign a replacement.
