Sources: Romeo Lavia could be about to end Chelsea favourite's career at club

Conor Gallagher could change his stance on quitting Chelsea if he loses his place in the side before January, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (16 September) that Gallagher is currently happy at Stamford Bridge as he is a regular for club and country at present.

Tottenham saw an approach for his services blocked late in the summer window, while West Ham are also long-term admirers of the 23-year-old.

But with summer signing Romeo Lavia still out with an injury, it remains unclear who will feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice midfield.

Gallagher recognises the need for regular first-team football with England set to feature in the European Championships in Germany next year.

Lavia is yet to play for the Blues after picking up an injury in training.

The Belgium international, who cost Chelsea a reported £58million in August, could be absent for several weeks after twisting his ankle.

Carney Chukwuemeka also looked set to pressure Gallagher for a place in Pochettino’s first-rate lineup but suffered an injury against West Ham last month.

Ex-Aston Villa man Chukwuemeka will reportedly miss six weeks of action after undergoing surgery.

Gallagher has started in each of Chelsea’s five fixtures in the 2023-24 campaign – and even captained the Blues against Wimbledon in the League Cup.

The nine-cap star is also now a regular in the England squad ahead of next year’s European Championships in Germany.

He will have just 18 months left to run on his deal at Stamford Bridge in January.
