Sources: Sheffield United and Coventry City in race to sign Jake Clarke-Salter
Sheffield United and Coventry are plotting moves for Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter, Football Insider understands.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of June and will not be offered a new deal.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Coventry are keen to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal after he impressed on loan last season.
Sheffield United want Clarke-Salter as they look to mount a bid for promotion next season.
The defender made 31 appearances for Coventry during the 2021-22 season – including 27 starts in the Championship.
Clarke-Salter came through the ranks at Chelsea and made his debut for the Stamford Bridge club in April 2016.

However, the left-footer has made only three total appearances for the Blues and has often been loaned away from the giants.
Spells at Vitesse, Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Birmingham, and Coventry have helped Clarke-Salter amass 128 senior appearances – including almost 70 in the Championship.
The centre-back is capped up to Under-21 level for England and was part of the team which lifted the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 – playing four of the seven games.
Three-time FA Youth Cup winner Clarke-Salter committed his future to Chelsea in 2019 but is now set to walk away from his boyhood club for free.
Coventry finished 12th in the Championship in the 2021-22 campaign and will be aiming even higher in their third season back in the second tier.
Sheffield United failed to bounce back from Premier League relegation and were eliminated from the play-offs at the semi-final stage.
