Sources: Shrewsbury Town ready big-money move for Charlton striker Aneke

Shrewsbury Town are readying a big-money move for Charlton Athletic striker Chuks Aneke, Football Insider can reveal.

The Arsenal academy product is out of contract at the Valley next month and will then be available on a free transfer.

A source has told Football Insider Charlton have offered Aneke a new contract that he has yet to accept.

Shrewsbury are ready to offer him a lucrative deal to make the move to Shropshire.

Aneke scored 15 goals for the Addicks in League One this season.

He made 38 appearances in the league, including just 11 starts, as they narrowly missed out of the play-offs.

Charlton ended the season in seventh-place missing out on a top-six place on goal difference.

Aneke moved to the club in the summer of 2019 after scoring 33 goals in 94 games across all competitions in a three-year spell with MK Dons.

He now has an impressive record of 49 goals and 24 assists in 167 League One appearances, including 106 starts.

Shrewsbury finished down in 17th-position this season, nine points above the relegation places.

They will be in the market for a striker after scoring just 50 goals in 46 games – the least of any side that did not get relegated.

Winger Shaun Whalley, 33, ended the season as their top goalscorer after finding the net eight times in 33 League One games. He also contributed seven assists.
