Sources: Swansea City open talks to sign Burnley defender Dunne
Swansea City have opened talks to sign Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 23-year-old is leaving Burnley when his contract expires this month.
Preston North End have been linked with Dunne but an industry source has told Football Insider Swansea are hoping to steal a march on their Championship rivals by starting negotiations.
Preston’s interest dates back to January when the Sun reported they were interested in Dunne as emergency cover after Patrick Bauer’s injury.
However, they instead added Sepp van den Berg and Liam Lindsay on loan from Liverpool and Stoke City, respectively.
Both players have returned to Deepdale this summer with Lindsay signing a permanent deal while Van Den Berg will spend next season on loan.

Swansea City are in the market for another defender with Marc Guehi’s future up in the air.
The Chelsea man spent the last 18 months on loan at the Liberty Stadium and was a standout performer as they reached the play-off final last season.
However, he told the club’s website in the wake of the defeat to Brentford at Wembley he was unsure what the future held for him.
Dunne would offer Steve Cooper a good option with Premier League experience.
The Englishman has played three times in the top flight and has a goal under his belt.
However, he has failed to disrupt Sean Dyche’s preferred pairing of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski and will now seek regular game time.
He has instead enjoyed loan spells with Barrow, Accrington Stanley, Hearts, Sunderland and Fleetwood and now has 89 career games to his name.
