Sources: Tottenham board line up manager best able to convince Harry Kane to stay

Tottenham could make Mauricio Pochettino their top manager target as part of an ambitious pitch to keep Harry Kane at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources close to the 29-year-old say that he has a tremendous relationship with Pochettino and his return could tempt the player to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the summer.

Man United are pushing hard to sign Kane this summer and Spurs are doing everything they can to keep their captain at the club after what will be another trophyless season.

The panic now setting in among the Tottenham hierarchy gives former manager Pochettino an advantage for the hot seat as he is seen as the best option to keep Kane at the club for at least another year.

Conte is expected to leave Spurs after his explosive post match press conference at the weekend during which he attacked the club’s owners, players and history.

Kane became the club’s all time top scorer this season but is yet to win a trophy despite his personal achievements.

The opportunity to play for a club that is competing for the highest honours is more attractive than ever for the England international and is causing major concern among the Spurs hierarchy.

Tottenham have attempted to get Kane to sign a new deal ahead of his current contract expiring in 2024 but are yet to find an agreement.

The 80-time England international is understood to be considering his options with the club valuing him at around the £100m mark even though he turns 30 in July.

It’s unclear whether Pochettino would agree to a return although he still holds a great love for the club.

If he were to be convinced, it has been suggested that promises would have to be made that would include Kane staying in north London.
