Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has told his agent to find him a new club this month amid behind-the-scenes talks over his future, Football Insider can reveal.
The 28-year-old powerhouse has set his sights on a move abroad after slipping down the Spurs pecking order in the new season following the club-record signing of Tanguy Ndombele.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Wanyama is attracted by the possibility of moving abroad to reignite his career following two injury-ravaged seasons.
Wanyama was on Bournemouth’s central midfield shortlist this summer but they eventually signed Philip Billing from Huddersfield in a late-window £15million deal.
Tottenham are willing to sell the Kenya international, who has entered the final two years of his contract at the club, but doubts over his fitness could scupper their hopes of securing a major fee.
The best hope may be a loan deal to a European club with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Wanyama has made it clear behind the scenes that he is keen to move on after being omitted from the Tottenham team for their opening two Premier League matches, failing even to make the matchday squad against Manchester City.
Teenager Oliver Skipp was preferred to Wanyama at the Etihad Stadium, and the likes of Ndombele, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier are also ahead of him for the central midfield positions.
Wanyama was a key man in his first season at Spurs in 2016-17, when he was the regular partner for Mousa Dembele as the team finished second in the Premier League with their record points tally in the competition.
The former Southampton player missed a big chunk of the following season due to a knee injury and has subsequently struggled to win back his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club are close to signing a record-breaking attacker.
