Sources: Tottenham open talks to sign Chukwuemeka in swap deal
Tottenham are have opened talks to Northampton Town rising star Caleb Chukwuemeka, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Premier League giants are working on a deal as they look to beat multiple leading clubs to the 19-year-old’s capture.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are discussing offering one of their own youngsters to Northampton as part of a swap deal.
That is something of a surprise as it will not cost a major fee for Chukwuemeka.
He has rebuffed the League One club’s attempts to secure him to a new contract and his current deal expires next year.
Tottenham’s talent spotters have been impressed by Chukwuemeka’s performances in pre-season and there is a sense he has progressed to a new level.

Football Insider revealed on 24 April that the club’s former manager David Pleat has been actively involved in checking out the teenager.
The 76-year-old, who works as an adviser to Spurs on young player recruitment, ran the rule over the attacker in league matches and has been impressed by what he has seen.
Chukwuemeka is a versatile forward who can play anywhere in attack, although he often operates on the left flank.
He broke into the first team last season at Northampton and scored twice in 28 appearances in all competitions.
His younger brother Carney, 17, is a midfielder who is at Aston Villa after being prised from Northampton in 2016.
Northampton have held talks with Caleb over the signing of a professional contract before his scholarship deal ends in 2022.
