Sources: Tottenham promote five starlets into first team as injury crisis strikes

Tottenham have promoted five of their rising stars into their first-team set-up, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Youngsters Marcel Lavinier, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Harvey White, Nile John and Matthew Craig have all moved their kit into the senior squad training area.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the young quintet have all been told they will train with the first team for the rest of the season.

This is due to the injury crisis that has deprived manager Antonio Conte of Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp and Sergio Reguilon.

Tanganga, 22, was ruled out for the season on 18 March after having surgery on a reoccurring knee problem.

Skipp, 21, hasn’t played since January after establishing himself as a key player in the first half of the season.

Reguilon, 25, could also be out for the season, as per Jonathan Veal (7 May), after picking up an injury this week.

The five young stars who have been promoted have had very different seasons.

John, 19, recently returned to Spurs after a disastrous January loan move to Charlton in which he failed to pick up any senior minutes.

White, 20, has been a key player in Tottenham’s Under 23 side, scoring five goals and registering six assists in 18 Premier League 2 outings.

Fagan-Walcott, 20, signed a new deal on 17 March, keeping him at Hotspur Way until 2023.

Lavinier, 21, and Craig, 19, have also been regulars for the Under 23s this season.

In February, Tottenham expert John Wenham told this site how he wanted more of Spurs’ youth players in and around the first team.

He singled out White and shared his disappointment that he could not secure a loan move away in January.
