Tottenham have cooled their interest in Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah, sources have told Football Insider.

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has given the green light for the Chalobah, 24, to leave in January if Chelsea's new £40million asking price is met.

Spurs identified the centre-back as a top target in the wake of van de Ven's injury but are now pursuing other centre-back targets.

It is believed that German giants Bayern Munich are also keen on Chalobah with Football Insider reporting earlier this season (15 September) that they could revisit a move for him this January.

Chalobah is yet to feature for Chelsea this season due to injury but made 18 starts and 25 overall appearances in the last campaign under the management of current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

Spurs are thin at centre-back with van de Ven missing and Eric Dier's underwhelming performances forcing Ange Postecoglou to play the likes of Ben Davies and Emerson Royal out of position.

Following their 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Thursday evening (7 December), Tottenham next welcome Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Blues suffered a defeat to Man United the previous day and will next travel to Goodison Park to face an in-form Everton.
