Tottenham want to follow the signing of Micky van de Ven with another centre-back after their Harry Kane windfall was confirmed, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs sealed the signing of Van de Ven, 22, from Wolfsburg for a reported initial fee of £34.5million before Kane, 30, departed for Bayern Munich.

The talisman cost the Bundesliga champions a reported £86million initial fee - which can now be reinvested into the Tottenham side by manager Ange Postecoglou.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that another centre-back signing is a "priority" for Postecoglou.

Spurs will have to move quickly to land the Burkina Faso international if the £50million-rated star is Postecoglou's top target.

Van de Ven lined up alongside Cristian Romero for the 2-2 draw against Brentford on Sunday (13 August), but Romero was forced off in the first half with a head injury.

Davinson Sanchez came off the bench to replace the World Cup winner, while Ben Davies was an unused substitute.

Eric Dier missed out on the matchday squad entirely, with Postecoglou insisting post-match that the former England international is "still part of this team".

Tottenham

Spurs shipped 63 league goals in the 2022-23 campaign - more than any other Premier League side who finished 14th or higher.

The Lilywhites kept just 10 clean sheets in the top-flight as they missed out on European qualification.
