Sources: Tottenham set sights on beating Villa to Souttar as transfer mission revealed

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Stoke City defender Harry Souttar ahead of the January transfer window, Football Insider has learned.

Spurs are one of a number of Premier League sides considering a move for the 22-year-old colossus.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club have sent scouts to watch the centre-half on multiple occasions this season.

Souttar put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the bet365 stadium in February after establishing himself as a key part of Michael O’Neill’s side.

The contract runs until the end of June 2025.

As revealed by Football Insider (October 7th), such form has attracted the interest of Aston Villa.

The Potters are aware of the growing interest in their player and are braced to receive bids in January.

Souttar, who stands at 6 foot 5 inches, has began the season in great form.

He has helped Stoke keep clean sheets in four of the 10 Championship fixture he has started.

He has also been capped six times by Australia.

Incredibly, he has scored six goals in those six appearances.

Spurs are no strangers to the Championship market having signed Joe Rodon from Swansea in a £15million deal last year.

However, it is difficult to see where Souttar would fit in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo already has Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga as centre-back options.

A departure would likely be needed before a formal move for Souttar is launched.

In other news, Robinson has claimed Tottenham are ‘a million miles ahead’ of Newcastle after an ‘incredible’ £714m reveal.
