Sources: Weimann agrees new Bristol City deal in Stoke City snub

Andreas Weimann has told Bristol City he will sign the new contract they have offered, Football Insider understands.

The Austrian forward’s future at Ashton Gate has been up in the air ahead of his current deal expiring at the end of this month.

A club source has told Football Insider Weimann has attracted interest from Championship rivals including Stoke City but has opted to agree extended City terms.

Weimann, 30, only made seven Championship appearances for the Robins last season.

The former Austria international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during his side’s draw with Swansea in October 2020.

He had played every minute of City’s season until that point and had two goals to his name.

He failed to make another appearance last season after picking up his knock and going under the knife.

On 1st March. Weimann tweeted an image of his boots and shared that he was back training on grass.

Nigel Pearson will be hoping the midfielder is ready for the start of next season as he looks to improve the Robins’ fortunes.

Bristol City only won one of their last 13 Championship games last season as they finished 19th in the table.

Weimann moved to Ashton Gate in 2018, leaving Derby County.

He has so far made 101 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals and picking up 12 assists.

Weimann made 117 appearances for Aston Villa after making his professional debut for the club in August 2010.

He has also represented Austria on 14 occasions.
