West Ham are in pole position to sign Nathaniel Clyne this summer as Liverpool give him the green light to find a new club this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Hammers are in the market for a new right-back as Pablo Zabaleta is 34 and out of contract at the end of the season.

A club source has told Football Insider that West Ham have been given encouragement over a deal for Clyne, 28, who is eager to return to London seven years after quitting Crystal Palace for Southampton.

The Liverpool defender has spent the second half of the season on loan at Bournemouth, where he has established himself as the first choice right-back and revived a career that had flatlined following the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold at his parent club.

The source said the Cherries are eager to convert Clyne’s loan into a permanent deal, but West Ham lead the chase for a player who Liverpool are willing to offload.

The former England international is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of next year, but the club are confident of securing an eight-figure fee for him.

In other West Ham transfer news, it can be REVEALED that a senior player is in line to quit and the club intend to replace him with a proven performer.
