Sources: West Ham tell Balbuena to find new club as Moyes transfer plan revealed

West Ham have told Fabian Balbuena he is free to find a new club, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, 29, is out of contract at the London Stadium at the end of next month.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider the Hammers have decided to let the 14-cap Paraguay international go after three years in east London.

As revealed by this site on 26 May, West Ham have prioritised the signing of a new, top-class centre back this summer.

It is understood the Irons are prepared to spend significant money on recruiting the right player to bolster their defence.

Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna finished the season as David Moyes’ first-choice centre-back pairing, with Issa Diop and Balbuena as back-ups.

The Irons have already confirmed Dawson’s loan will be turned into a permanent deal this summer.

However, Moyes still believes he needs to strengthen at the back.

As such, he is willing to let Balbuena go to make room in the squad.

The south American defender joined West Ham from Brazilian outfit Corinthians in the summer of 2018.

He played every minute in all but one of the Hammers’ opening 17 Premier League games during the 2018-19 campaign.

However, a serious knee injury ruled him out for over three months.

He featured 17 times in the league during the 2019-20 campaign but fell out of favour when Moyes took over from Manuel Pellegrini.

Balbuena started 12 of the Irons’ opening 15 games during the recently-finished Premier League campaign.

However, he made just two appearances between late December and the end of the season.

In other news, Kieran Maguire claims West Ham could be set for “amazing” £40million windfall.
