Sources: Wolves line up move for ex-Nottingham Forest manager Lamouchi

The Wolves search for a new manager will take in an approach to ex-Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 49-year-old, who is currently in charge of Qatari side Al-Duhail, is a leading contender for the newly-vacant Molineux post.

A Wolves source has told Football Insider that Lamouchi was lined up a year ago by the club to take over from Nuno when it was feared by the club he would quit at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Wolves consultant Jorge Mendes, the all-powerful super agent, had laid the groundwork for the Frenchman to head from the City Ground to Molineux.

But the potential deal hit the buffers due to the first lockdown, which saw Nuno end up staying in charge well into July.

That then continued into a fourth and least successful of the Portugese’s four seasons at the club.

The Midlands giants announced on Friday afternoon that Nuno is leaving by mutual consent after Sunday’s Premier League finale.

They have been linked with a number of potential new managers with strong Portugese connections.

That is partly due to the huge influence of Mendes, who is not only Nuno’s agent but also the representative of Lamouchi.

It remains to be seen if the world’s most powerful football networker can revive a deal for the former Forest man.

He was in charge at the City Ground for 15 months and led them to their highest league finish in 10 years but missed out on the play-offs on the last day of last season.
