Wolves are plotting a move for Newcastle United star Jamaal Lascelles if they can't prise Craig Dawson from West Ham, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands outfit have had a January offer for the Irons centre-back, 32, rejected after they narrowly failed to finalise a deal for him during the summer.

Wolves could now turn their attention to Lascelles, 29, as they look to bring in a proven Premier League centre-back this month.

But their interest in Dawson is not over despite West Ham manager David Moyes' bullishness on Friday.

Moyes publicly insisted his club do not want to lose Dawson and Wolves' interest in their player is unwelcome.

However, it is understood the London club would be willing to let Dawson leave this month if they can secure a replacement before the 31 January cut-off.

He is valued at around the £8million mark by the north-east giants.

Lascelles has only made seven appearances this season with four of those being starts.

Despite this, he remains the club captain after being handed the role by Rafael Benitez back in 2016.

Lascelles has also been booked three times this season and two of those were given while he was off the pitch.

On several occasions this season, Lascelles has been sent to warm up but instead, he would get in the way of opposition players trying to take a throw-in and get booked for his efforts.

Wolves have conceded 27 goals in 18 Premier League games so far this season, only four top-flight sides have let in more.
