Southampton are expecting to hold talks with Tottenham over a permanent deal for defender Kyle Walker-Peters this summer, Football Insider understands.

The right-back joined the Saints at the end of January on loan for the rest of the season after talks broke down over a full-time deal.

A Southampton source has told Football Insider that Ralph Hasenhuttl has been impressed by what he has seen of Walker-Peters even though he has only started one Premier League match since his arrival.

As this site revealed before the deal was announced at the end of last month, there was no option or obligation for Southampton to sign the 22-year-old from Tottenham at the end of the season.

This is because the two clubs could not agree on the potential fee.

Walker-Peters arrived at St Mary's Stadium a month ago carrying a hamstring injury and this has limited his availability.

He started the recent 2-1 defeat to Burnley but missed out against Aston Villa before being named on the bench for today's clash against West Ham at the London Stadium.

For their part, Spurs are keen offload their academy product, who has a contract until 2023, on a permanent deal.

He did not have a single minute of Premier League action following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who preferred Serge Aurier and even rookie Japhet Tanganga at right-back.
