Cameron Archer is undergoing a medical at Auxerre ahead of a move from Southampton, sources have told Football Insider.

The Ligue 1 outfit have reached a full agreement to sign the 24-year-old ahead of tonight's transfer deadline and are now accelerating plans to complete his signing.

Former Saints boss Will Still is keen to reunite with the striker, who has fallen out of favour under Tonda Eckert, with regular starts having been hard to come by.

Archer has featured just once for Southampton so far this season, with a substitute appearance in the League Cup last month, but was left out of their latest Championship clash.

Auxerre have now moved ahead of a number of rivals in the Championship and across European football, and are aiming to complete the formalities in the coming hours.

Archer's contract at Saint Mary's Stadium is set to run until 2028, but the club have been open to letting him leave all summer, with a move now close to completion.

Why are Southampton letting Cameron Archer leave?

Archer has long been linked with a move away from Southampton, after Football Insider revealed Rangers were plotting a move for a striker in the mid-season window.

While he eventually remained at St Mary's, the club have been open to receiving new offers all summer, and he finally looks set to move on.

Auxerre have moved ahead of their rivals to sign the striker in their attempts to replace last season's top scorer Lassine Sinayoko, who joined Paris FC earlier this summer.

Still is believed to be playing a key role in luring his former player to Ligue 1, with the French outfit now set to beat English rivals to his signature.

Barring any late hiccups during his medical, Archer will complete a move away from Southampton, with Auxerre working hard to get it over the line.

Sources: Southampton and Millwall agree terms with Nottingham Forest over defender deal

Which other deals are expected at Southampton?

Archer's exit is not expected to be the only deal done at St Mary's today, with the club aiming to agree a number of outgoing and incoming deals before the deadline.

Football Insider revealed on 1 September that both Southampton and Millwall have agreed terms with Nottingham Forest over a loan move for Zach Abbott.

The Saints are the favourites to win the race for the 20-year-old, with Eckert aiming to strengthen his back line ahead of the window closing later tonight.

The England youth international is keen to seek more regular senior football this season, and has since been reported to be undergoing a medical at St Mary's.
