Hibernian are interested in snapping up Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson on the last day of the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that both SPL sides are holding discussions over a potential deal that could see the 21-year-old leave Celtic Park on deadline day.
The newspaper reports that English Championship side Preston North End attempted to sign the youngster earlier on this summer but a permanent move failed to materialise.
The report claims that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is willing to offload the midfielder on a loan deal this season as he wants to see him feature on a regular basis.
The youngster has already enjoyed a spell with Hibs during the 2015-16 campaign where he excelled in the first-team, contributing with six goals and 16 assists in all competitions.
The midfielder produced two assists as Hibs defeated SPL giants Rangers 3-2 to clinch their first Scottish Cup in over 100 years.
Henderson has failed to secure a regular place in the Celtic first-team over the last couple of seasons.
The Scot only managed to feature in 13 matches last season and he has not been selected in any of the matchday squads for the Hoops during the new campaign.
The midfielder’s current contract at Celtic Park runs out in 2018.
Football Insider verdict
Given that Henderson has not featured in a single game for the SPL champions this season, Celtic should be willing to offload him if they right offer is presented. The Hoops are already blessed with a number of talented midfield players in their squad and although they are going to need different options to compete in the Champions League, Henderson doesn’t appear to be Rodgers’ plans. The youngster has already shone whilst playing with Hibs two years ago and it could be wonderful for his confidence to return and show Rodgers that he has what it takes to shine on a weekly basis in the top-flight.
