Kevin Phillips has claimed that Brazilian winger Willian would be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international suggested that Chelsea star could still offer a lot to Jose Mourinho’s side, despite his age.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to wrap up a deal for the 31-year-old in the near future to ensure that he becomes the club’s first signing for the summer.
The South American is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, with negotiations over a potential extension stalling.
And Phillips believes that he could be a great addition for Mourinho’s men.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Willian is a player that I like.
“I think he’s got great qualities, great attributes.
“At the end of the day, it’s whether or not he fits into Mourinho’s style and where he plays. Mourinho generally plays a 4-2-3-1, so you could certainly see Willian playing on the left or right and giving them a bit of quality.
“If they get him on a free and it isn’t too much money then go for it.
“He’s been in and out the side at Chelsea, whereas if he goes to a side where he’ll play week in and week out, you will certainly see the best of Willian.
“For me, he’s still got plenty to offer in the Premier League, and if Tottenham were to secure his services, I think that would be a good signing.”
Willian has struggled for regular game time in recent weeks, starting just two of Chelsea previous five Premier League matches.
So far this season, he has registered seven goals and six assists in 37 appearances for the Blues.
