Spurs tipped to complete 'incredible' double deal for Lloris and new goalkeeper - pundit

Tottenham could renew Hugo Lloris’ contract and sign a new goalkeeper in the coming months, according to Danny Mills.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 34-year-old may transition into a backup role in north London.

This site revealed last Saturday (11 December) that Lloris has opened talks with Tottenham over a new long-term deal as he looks to extend his nine-year spell at the club.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the Frenchman wants to commit to another contract that would take him into his late 30s.

The World Cup winner’s current deal is set to expire at the end of this season.

When asked if Spurs were more likely to renew Lloris or bring in a fresh face, Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “There’s no reason why they can’t do both.

“They can look at it and conclude that they need some competition through the door.

“But keeping Lloris around would mean they have a great goalkeeper, who knows the ins and outs of the club. He can transition into that number two role.

“They don’t have an incredible number two ready to step in, so there’s no reason why they can’t keep Lloris. Goalkeepers can play until a much later age.”

Lloris has made 388 appearances for Tottenham since signing for the north London club in 2012 – keeping 132 clean sheets.

The former Lyon goalkeeper has conceded 17 goals in 14 league games this term – keeping six clean sheets.
