Stan Collymore has suggested that Aston Villa should play Jordan Amavi as a left midfielder after the signing of Neil Taylor.
Wales international Taylor, who plays at left-back, joined the club on deadline day and will now provide competition for Amavi in defence.
Prior to Taylor’s arrival, Amavi was the only senior left-back at the club after manager Steve Bruce opted to loan out his French counterpart, Aly Cissokho in January.
Amavi’s performances since returning from a season-ending knee injury last season have been up and down.
As a result, former Premier League striker Collymore suggested on his personal Twitter account that the highly-rated youngster could still play in the team with the club’s new addition.
“I do wonder whether Amavi could move forward one with Taylor at left-back,” said Collymore. “He hasn’t kicked on since the nasty injury but I’d at least look at him as a left midfielder.”

Amavi has played 24 games in all competition for the Midlands club this season, providing one assist.
He played the full match against Brentford on Tuesday night as Villa were comfortably beaten 3-0 away from home.
The France under-21 international started the Championship season on the bench when Roberto Di Matteo was in charge of the club.
But, he has been a regular feature under Steve Bruce since he joined the club in mid-October.
Now, both Amavi and Taylor will be vying for a starting spot when Villa take on Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening in a Championship clash.
In other Aston Villa news, Stan Collymore delivered a scathing verdict on the club’s performance against Brentford.
